“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,
whom you have received from God and that you are not your own?
For you have been bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19
Recently, after receiving notice from a special friend about the death of her Grandma, I am mindful of how fragile and short life is. My friend’s grandma is with the Lord, her life on earth counts for God and her death brought restored relationships and an opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ with unsaved family members. Fragility of life reminds us and that we have much more to consider than regular maintenance of our physical bodies that perish.
Yesterday’s blog at Given the Time mentioned that we worship God everywhere, today we will focus on worshipping God in or with our temple. In Corinthians Paul teaches us that our bodies are a temple of God, where the Holy Spirit dwells and He instructs Christians on how to live for Christ in midst of this broken and corrupt world. At the time that we become Christians and surrender our life to God, something amazing happens and transaction takes place between God and us. We receive the gift of the Holy Spirit who takes up residence within us and our bodies no longer belong to us but become a dwelling place, or a Temple, of God. Through Christ, we are free from sin and have commitment to Him to live a pure and holy life dwelling in His presence resulting in a worship of God in our bodies.
Many times I have to remind myself that I was bought at a price … my precious Savior’s blood. It helps me to not take advantage of the fact that the Holy Spirit lives in me … He is a Gift from God. May I live a “thankful” life!
